But, I have decided that starting back in January we are going to take a turn in our schooling. You see, I have come to realize that I only have a small window of opportunity to do lots of fun school things with the girls. The time will be here before I know it when we will have to do more bookwork and sitting at tables and learning. NOW is the time to be having great fun in learning, cultivating a love of learning and reading.
Along with our normal Good and Beautiful curriculum for Literacy and Math, we will be using The Waldock's unit study on The Magic Treehouse books with her Passport to Adventure and we will be also looking into fairytales using Brave Writer's Jot it Down curriculum. We are going to incorporate more games into our schooling, as well. I am psyched about this and hope the girls will look back at these years of learning with fondness and warmth. A quote I read in the Jot it Down curriculum hit me like a ton of bricks. It went something like this: You are at home. You should have that tattooed on your hand. Your kids should benefit from the warm, cozy environment and you should too. And that is exactly my goal for the rest of this school year. To have fun, to make home the place to be, to have warmth, coziness and joy fill this place, to love learning and reading, to create a book club culture in this home, to allow the books we are reading fill us with wonder, learn about humanity, empathy and compassion so we can love others like Christ.
Along with these things, we will also be doing the Read Aloud Revival Reading Aloud challenge for January and a gameschooling Bingo challenge, as well.
Here is what we will be doing in the Morning Basket:
Bible: We will be going through the Book of Ruth, which I was suppose to do before Christmas with our Charlotte Mason books we are reading, but it just didn't happen. So, we will be reading different versions of Ruth for the month of January and talking about the theme, purpose, how we see the foretelling of Christ and how it can be applied to our life. I plan on using the
